I never knew. I’ve read some Hemingway but never read about him personally. Really I’m more a Steinbeck fan.

He and some friends went U-Boat hunting during WW2 on his boat; I seem to recall he somehow finagled a Browning machine gun (likely a 1917 or 1919) and a case of dynamite...
