Tips for Buying a S&W Handgun Online

Interesting article but no.
I still want to hold it, check every nook and cranny. Work the slide or bolt, inspect the barrel.
It would be like a mail order bride, the pictures show one thing but what walks in the door could be completely different.

So you restrict yourself to whatever your LGS has in stock?

Last year I bought a pistol. I called my LGS, they ordered it and I waited. I could have done that myself. Last year I bought 3 other guns. Ordered them from PSA and Bud's and Gunbuyer. I waited for them to arrive at my LGS and then picked them up. I haven't had any issues with any of these guns. If I did, they are all made by reputable manufacturers and sold by reputable retailers. That is to say, if you buy a S&W pistol from an online vendor and there's a problem, S&W will take care of it. I've even went to a gun shop, shot a gun, decided I liked it then bought the same gun online for $150 cheaper.

Yeah, I pretty much do buy what I find in gun stores...but there's probably about a dozen I’ll check every few months.

Then there's gun shows, and Armslist...I’ve only ordered 1 gun online, and only had my dealer order 1 gun for me.

Usually, my dealer will price match anything online, or come close enough after transfer & shipping that it’s not worth ordering from someplace else...

I’m glad that process works for you for me it doesn’t. You are correct if the gun has issues the manufacturer can fix it but if the gun does feel comfortable in the hand what is the manufacturer going to do about that? Nothing.

True enough if you can't find one to shoot before you order.

My local shop has just about everything that I would ever want, plus, they buy in quantity, usually 3-4 of most guns, even with the panic buying that went on, they never ran out of stock, I don’t buy anything online now, I got hacked back in 2008, I don’t own any credit cards, don’t use any debit cards either, cash works fine for me.

Mine has a pretty good inventory, but at least 3 times they didn't have exactly what I wanted. And right now they ( and nobody else) has exactly what i want either. I would prefer to support my local shop(s), but I don't really ever just go browsing and buy something that's really close to what I want. I have a habit of very thoroughly researching and taking my time before making a decision. When I decide I want something, that's what I want. I don't want the version with the safety or the 4.5" barrel instead of the 5" barrel, etc..

Good examples. No store anywhere around had a KSG25 or a Walther Q5 Match in stock when I was looking for them. And they still don't. I've never seen a Tavor TS12 or an SRM 1216 in person at any gun store. I would love to find a store that had all the variations of the Saint/Victor/Edge rifles and pistols in stock.

Yea, I know that feeling, but, I can order from my shop if they don’t have what I was looking for, and it’s there in less then 3 days, that is if the distributor has them.
