Mugs would hurt but I can't imagine how empty 3" cannon shell cases feel. It almost sounds like the captain was enjoying watching the resourcefulness of his men.

The German torpedos (G7e) were not 24" torpedos but 21" (in diameter) and 24 ft long.

"Victory Mugs?" - "Victory jugs" could be another matter though?
