Just as buying a gun is a very personal decision — so too is choosing a holster to put it in. The holster that you choose might not be the same as what someone else chooses. This is especially true when concealed carrying because trying to hide a gun presents unique challenges compared to open carry. So how do you choose?

I have 2 holster for each gun. OWB and IWB. Some ride on my hip open carry around the deer lease, some ride conceal for other. Mood and clothes depends on the gun. I rotate between 5 carry pistols.
A.D.D. Extends to my pistols as well 😁🤣

I only IWB Shields currently. Everything else is 4" or bigger and rides OWB.

I am new to the forum. I have two questions:
1. What is "IWB" and "OWB".
2. I am looking for a holster for my XD9 with a laser sight. I would prefer the holster be at my lower back.
A) What are the pros and cons of the having the holster at the lower back?
B) The gun came with the laser. I can remove it if needed, but it seems smarter have it available if needed.

Thanks ahead of time,
Ron

Inside the waistband and outside the waistband. The article linked in the opening post explains it.

Cons of small of back carry. Slow as hell to draw. Pros. None.

Thank you for the information.
Here is some information about myself:
1. I have a Concealed Carry from Nebraska, but I don't normally carry. I was one of the first to get it as a means to support those in our State government who pushed to allow it.
2. I do carry if I feel I will be in area that requires self-defense.
3. I stay current with shooting and how to handle the gun.

Questions:
What do people recommend for Concealed Carry for me?
Is there a "good" holster for the pistol with the laser attached? What?
Should I remove the laser for Concealed Carry?

Ron

"For you" is 110% subjective. What I love, you may hate...and vice versa. You'll end up like most of us - and have a closet full of holsters!

One of my EDC guns (EveryDay Carry) is an XD-S with a Viridian instant-on laser sight. Alien Gear holsters makes multiple models for that setup. Check various holster sites, many of them will list "accessory" holsters to accommodate lasers, red dots, etc.

Bear in mind - your carry pistol does you precisely ZERO good, if it is sitting home in the safe when you need it. Better to carry 1,000 times and never need it, than to need it one time....and it's locked up in the safe at home. Regular carry also gives you the benefit of 'comfort level' - you don't act like you're carrying, because you're used to it being there, so you are better concealed from the get-go.

I "probably" won't need mine during my normal workday - but it is on my hip regardless, every single day, because you never know.

And I refuse to have the last thought through my head be "I shouldn't have left it home...".

Is it conceal only or can you open? To me the more flex is more comfortable as opposed to the stiffer poly/plastic kind. Leather or similar works for me. I have 1791 Gunleather, but can be costly? What 1 likes and works for might not be for another? Bassbob has it correct! Maybe a gun shop near by might have 1 that fits your gun?

Thank you.
I really like the people in Forums. Helpful and knowledgeable.

I've only had my license about a year and a half and in a small town (2,500 population) I don't carry most of the time. Out of town with much greater populous I do. Hope you enjoy this forum! We here try to be the most truthful and informative group!
