Having carried the M-14 for 6 years in the Marines.I was not to fond of the weight of the rifle.I think it was 11.4 combat loaded. With that hole in the right side where the selector was suppose to go. Liked the 7.62x51 round, but I did carry a lot of luber plate.I was wondering what the troops thought when the 5.56x45 was introduced.I think the army had it first.I think I would have been highly pissed.anyone experience this changeover first hand? My saint pistol is a 5.56,but a totally different animal. For the record I was able to be one of the last ones to go through ITR at Camp Pendleton & fire the M-1,BAR,3.5 rocket launcher, and the ever popular flame thrower. The bar was awesome !!!

I qualified with the first we got. They were full auto. A real hoot to shoot. What little I got to do. AF we don't do that much unless SP type.

What I heard a lot was "Nobody goes to war with a 22!" Seemed to be the popular way of putting the gun down.
