Truck Alarm Dead

Back in 2018 my F250 was broken into, except for the passenger side rear window which was broken out there was not much damage although a mag for a 9mm was stolen that I had left in the center console. Needless to say I was not happy and decided to have an alarm installed and chose a Viper system.
It was a decent system although during the colder weather very sensitive, it came with two remote controls with one being called a two way remote which would light up and make noise when the alarm went off, the remote was rechargeable. The system also included a remote start which was great in the winter months.
I noticed that over the last few months the remote needed recharging more often and the weekend I installed my winch the remote died.
I was unable to find a replacement battery but finally found a new remote at a local BestBuy for $125 unfortunately I was unable to pair the new remote to the alarm system and now the alarm is stuck in valet mode, basically useless. Yesterday I stopped by a local shop that installs car alarm’s for help only to find out that no reputable installers are dealing with Viper system’s anymore due to ongoing problems and poor technical support from Viper themselves.
And yes I called Viper also and the technician I talked to was a jerk basically telling me to buy a new alarm.
When this was purchased it cost over $1000.00 including installation and now I have to spend another $1,400.00 to have the Viper system removed and new system installed “not a Viper”
Luckily I was able to return the remote control to BestBuy and get my money back.

It never ends…….

Have you tried finding a new battery online?

A general search for "viper alarm remote battery" comes up with a lot of options. No idea if your numbers are included however. Good luck that sucks.
I’ve tried every option, what I’ve found was there are no less than 6-7 model numbers of remotes used over the years for my model alarm and although I did find multiple places with batteries none matched what was originally used in mine.

What I also tried after having no luck pairing the brand new remote was to remove the battery from it and install it in my remote however at that point my alarm was already stuck in “valet mode” and wouldn’t even pair or recognize the original remote.

I’m a big time researcher and looking online I found reviews from multiple people on multiple sites complaining about the same issue I’m dealing with and they all ended up doing what I’m going to have to do, have the Viper removed and install another none Viper system.

Do you know the model of your current system? If so you could possibly swap out the module with a new one and use the new remotes that come with it. This maybe an easy plug and play swap out.

Crutchfield has a Viper system in stock for short money.

Crutchfield also has other parts available for Viper systems that maybe what you need if the system above isn't compatible.

I appreciate the information however during my search for help/answers I found out that each Viper systems are proprietary and modules are not cross compatible with other systems and the last thing I want to do is compromise my trucks electronics and possibly cost me more money.

I will say this the system I’m considering has multiple new features/options including an LTE cell service for use if remotes are out of range.
Also……
The company who makes the alarms makes different systems for each manufacturer of vehicles so the system I choose will be compatible (made for) just my model year F250 Super Duty.

Expensive but you get what you pay for.

Edit…….

Don’t get wrong although I’m upset that the failure of a $125 dollar remote caused a $1,000 dollar alarm system to crash and burn I got 5 years of peace of mind that my truck was secure where ever I parked it.

The sad part was back in the day Viper Alarms were the go to systems, everything I’m finding out is the lack of tech/service support has killed the company and I found that out myself talking to a Viper tech guy who gave me the impression that he could care less than less about my problems.

Dang dude that sucks. Sounds like they just used whatever they got a deal on without regards to the future.

Good luck.

I had tinted windows back in '86 when my p/u's driver side window was broken to steal a radar detector. The good news is cleanup was easy as the tint held all of the glass together. Filing a police report of a stolen detector was funny though and found out about 30 were stolen in less than 1 month. Hopefully the little flashing light that indicates it's on doesn't run down your battery. The last 3 Ford's my parents had it did it less than a week and sometimes in 3 days if not started/driven enough.
