Congress report says shot hit would-be assassin’s weapon, wounding him before he was killed by Secret Service sniper

Maybe I'm reading more into this than there is, but it seems to me if any SWAT team sniper saw a need to shoot, he would have shot to kill/neutralize the target. This story reads to me that the first sniper actually hit the rifle in some fashion which was his intended target even though close enough to neutralize the shooter. It's being called a 'delay' of the shooter, and logically it was, but was that the intent? Or does the actual intent even matter? The fact is the shooter was stopped before he killed the POTUS candidate, although he was successful in killing one innocent bystander and severely wounding two others.

I'm in no way trying to demean the actions nor the accuracy of the local sniper, he does what he does and I'm sure he did his best. Did he act under some orders to only interfere/delay the shooter and he followed those orders? Or was it a simple miss of the intended target (the shooter)? Either way, my question is why write the story so that it seems to be an explanation for the initial miss ... as though it was his intent to simply disrupt the shooter and basically delay his activities?

Yeh, I read or heard somewhere that he had to run about 100 yds to get a clear shot. That in itself would very likely cause a missed shot and that's not what I was challenging. It just seemed to me the stories seemed to be more inclined to imply the shot was intended to only delay the shooter and not to dispatch him, when that's not likely the real case. Again, I'm not demeaning the sniper in the least. Under the intense pressure and circumstances one could probably find a dozen logical reasons for a first shot miss.

So, the video posted here a while back the man said there were two sniper teams. This seems to back that up, but he also said the other team was a federal team IIRC. Also, in the first article, that famous picture of the "police" sniper team is pushed as secret service. Again, IIRC. IMO, a lot of obfuscation going on here.

What a coincidence that the only Trump rally CNN has live streamed in 2024 was the one in Butler, PA where he was nearly assassinated.

I don't believe a word we've been told about the shooter, and I don't believe a single excuse we've been given for how and why it happened.

I copied that from another forum, FYI. But it's interesting nonetheless.

Well there is much to come out (and much will be hidden or covered up) still. I can hit repetitively 400+ yds with a good scope a dinner plate target and am in excellent shape. Running a 100 yds though with a heavy scoped rifle and then rushing a shot - that would be difficult for anyone it would seem.
