With AR-308 firearms you will need a matching receiver set for everything to fit and function correctly.Looking to get a complete .308 upper for my Saint. Could I use the original lower or do i need a dpms lower? Any advice or suggestions for an upper would be great. Thanks!
its the 5.56.Do you have the Saint .308 now ?
my question would be:
Why do you want a different upper for your Saint .308 ?
ok, gotcha. was hoping to be able to use the same lower and ruck the .308 upper if I ever needed it. any suggestions on a setup to make that happen? id like to stay with Springfield though. With AR-308 firearms you will need a matching receiver set for everything to fit and function correctly.
AR-308 firearms are not as interchangeable as an AR-15.
Even the takedown pins are not standard across AR-308 firearms.
A DPMS cut or ArmaLite cut receiver only refers to the rear of the receiver and does not indicate fitment with other brands of the same cut.
Unfortunately SA only sells complete firearms so you may need to buy a complete rifle to get what you're after.ok, gotcha. was hoping to be able to use the same lower and ruck the .308 upper if I ever needed it. any suggestions on a setup to make that happen? id like to stay with Springfield though.
5.56 lowers and .308 uppers will not work together from any brand.its the 5.56.
its the 5.56.
As @10mmLife states, you will not be able to use a .308 upper on a 5.56 lower.5.56 lowers and .308 uppers will not work together from any brand.
You will need a dedicated .308 lower.
If you are looking for a compatible .30cal upper for a 5.56 lower I'd recommend .300 blackout for it's versatility in bullet weights.
Interesting. How does the .300BO compare to a .308?As @10mmLife states, you will not be able to use a .308 upper on a 5.56 lower.
A 5.56 lower however, will support a 6.5 Grendel upper and also a .300BO upper.
I run a 6.5 Grendel upper on my Saint 5.56 lower
In a nutshell to summarize:Interesting. How does the .300BO compare to a .308?
That’s not quite true.5.56 lowers and .308 uppers will not work together from any brand.

True, but you need a custom kit from Colt to do it.That’s not quite true.
The Colt 901 could go from .308 to 5.56, but it was discontinued several years ago.
I learn something new everyday! That’s not quite true.

Thanks, Killer. In a nutshell to summarize:
.300BO doesnt have the distance of a .308 or heavier punch, but it does offer more punch over a 5.56 for close/mid length engagements. Avg 147-175 gr on .308 vs 120’s grain Avg on a .300BO
Lighter recoil over a .308
Kind of a go between the 5.56 & .308
I like the .300BO on hogs. Lighter platform to carry around for weight of gun and still a good knockdown with the bullet. Just not good for distance shots
My LE901 is a tac driver. 100-200 yards will put 3-5 rounds touching. I’m a 1”MOA guy myself on my ability, but others “better than me” have put 5 shot groups touching at distance in the size of a dime with my rifle.I learn something new everyday!
Small chassis—ie, AR15—uppers.I have the 10.5in barrel .300 blk Saint and the lower says “multi caliber”. Which uppers does this lower support?
Not any more, now this is a 556 upper though. But SA is slowly opening up what they sellUnfortunately SA only sells complete firearms so you may need to buy a complete rifle to get what you're after.
I've built a few AR-308 rifles and I've used Matrix and Aero Precision for builds. I strongly prefer the Aero Precision AR-308 for a do it yourself build as the Aero parts are easily sourced and top quality.
I've had a bear of a time finding compatible components for the Matrix build and spent months looking for even the smallest screw which holds the bolt release in place.
