I read an article about this a few days ago, and as crazy as I think the Navy is, if in fact they relieved a competent CO from duty for this infraction, all I can say is I'll never again recommend any young man or woman to sign up. I was Navy for a period and did laugh at the picture at first. I couldn't open the OP's article since I use ad blockers, but in the one I did read it was implied he showed carelessness and bad judgement in allowing this photo taken since it was posted so many times on social media and made the Navy 'appear in a bad light' ... therefore the Navy had lost confidence in him. I guess my question then would be if in fact it had not been posted on social media but kept aboard among the officers and crew, would the Navy still have dumped him? Should we as readers have lost all confidence in him and convicted him for carelessness and bad judgement? Now, I can't say for sure whether or not the pictured (Captain Christy?) above is who actually relieved the Commander, but the Capt in this photo is no Capt. There would be four bars on the shoulders if that were true. So, I have no idea who actually relieved the CO, and I have no real idea whether he was really that incompetent, or whether it was just a lark among a CO and his crew at sea (doesn't happen often, but does occasionally). But this story is so F---'d up in so many ways, it's really hard to say.
