Walther P1 Aluminum Alloy Frame - How To Re-Blacken It?

Hello. I have a P1 frame that has most of the black (anodizing?) worn off of it. I've been trying to darken/blacken it with Birchwood Aluminum Black but not having any results. Would this be because the frame might not be a pure aluminum alloy? I've waited 24 hours since the first application, and just applied more of the Birchwood - but still no change. Get it Cerakoted.

I’d also get it ceracoated.

Or, you could try Duracoating it yourself.

GunKote, you can do it at home with an air brush and an oven. Won’t change your fitment like cerakote. Lot tougher than duracoat.

Don't you still need to thoroughly strip the part, like with a sandblaster or something ?

Aluminum oxide blast with an air eraser just to remove the loose and rough the surface. I wash the parts in acetone, hit it with the eraser and acetone wash again. The eraser is like $30 at harbor freight. It’s a tiny blaster like an air brush. No cabinet needed. Little jar of aluminum oxide came with mine.

This was a baby rock 380 I did. Parkerized finish was crap out of the box. Before pics next to the RiIA BBR.

After the acetone wash

Finished product when I sold it, after several hundred rounds were put through it.

The only place it ever wore was where the slide and the frame touch. Friction wear.
