Well, after a looong wait, it is here.

Photos below, and as always apologies for the lighting, bad phone pics, etc… also for not having her shined up properly after packaging & transit.
This one oughta be “range report” worthy and I’ll try to do that soon but the weather here hasn’t cooperated lately and it’s resulted in crowded range days & my not getting the good paper target ranges and instead having to use the hanging plates when I tested the Spgfld Garrison a week or so ago. Couldn’t even secure that pizza box, lol ! So maybe I can do both guns soon…
Some Background on this acquisition: back last spring I emailed a seller via Gunbroker about a CQB he posted (also did a little background snooping since it wasn’t a store; turned out he’s a legit side-biz dealer) and we exchanged non-Gbroker contact info and eventually talked on the phone about a few things. Anyway that CQB sold before I could act (it was ambi safety too, which I didn’t exactly want). Then a while after, he contacted me to say he had had one on special order 3-4 months already and now his local buyer/friend had to back out on it. If I paid a nominal deposit, he’d refund the local boy his down payment. But he had to warn that that guy’d ordered slim grips and an extended slide release Would I be interested despite the mods if he lowered the $ a bit??
Haitch Eee Double Ell Yes! Even better than bidding on a ‘standard model’ offering, and already coming with two features I’d have wanted for myself if I special ordered one…
And I got mine in approx 7mo instead of the oft-quoted 10mo. (actually it’s 11mo right now).
There’s probably better deals somewhere - and I’ve seen them for sale since then of course but not already coming as I would’ve ordered one. Sorry for the long tale but things just fell into place for me, for once.

Initial observations:
TERRIFIC GRIP ! The high undercut at trigger guard is standard and my small hands can’t get over it. The slim grips are more aggressive than the full size starburst ones you see on WC website pics.
Mine appears to have extended mag release button (compared to my springers). It might be standard on WC however.
Front FO sight is green, and smaller than my Ronin. Not sure if that’ll be better or worse but we’ll see. I thought these came with addit’l FO tubes - my Ronin did - but I haven’t found them in the packaging (yet). Might’ve been wrong about that anyway. Note: I wasn’t interested in gold bead front back then, but have been recently. The U-notch rear would’ve been perfect with that.

Most obvious feature: Slide Fit. It GLIDES when I rack it. Smooth as silk. I pulled out my Garrison just to make sure I wasn’t imagining it, and that one made me wince at the scraping by comparison. I really can’t believe it. Haven’t even cleaned it yet and I know of one thing that won’t be a problem!

Pics (bad qual) are attached. Note WC test target…and soon to be pizza box target (I dunno why that dang pizza joint had to locate practically next door to LGS:) )

Omg, wth, tmi, yolo, great for shtf, or teotwawki.

Seriously, sweet, very very sweet. CMJ. Color Me jealous

I’m here at my hideaway place 20min from the outdoor range. It rained like crazy last evening - residual storm from what hit KY, as I understand it… thoughts & prayers for those folks .
Anyway, I started disassembling the Wilson and what a surprise - it arrived clean and looks to be pre-oiled. And nary a wear mark anywhere on the internals or rails from functions checks or test fire. I knew I wouldn’t have to go thru the RIA degreasing routine of course - but must say i was expecting a little pre-first-use cleaning. Barrel & rifling look pristine. Guess I’ll just add a drop of lube before range time. I can’t review Bill Wilsons recommendations via YouTube; cell connection here won’t stream.
One bigger surprise - it came with a Shok Buff already installed. I’d bought a couple off WC website a few months ago but never tried them. Guess I will now. But it might be a bit of a sales trick - any opinions??
See pics below (blue shok buff)

Did u leave it in and try it?
Continuing to use them?
Oh, yes--I left it in the X9, as it came from Wilson that way, and was obvious designed to use it. Not going to change that.

But I've bought 1911's where people aded them, and I thought they just caused issues (slide failing to lock being a common problem). Took it out and it ran fine.

Definitely leave yours in...

And, on the subject of break in--here's how a Wilson gets tested before it leaves the shop.

Not just 10 rounds for accuracy...closer to 80-100 rounds.
