what does "co-witness" mean..??

hey people, i have seen that term on here i believe and on other gun sites.

but i never asked, so here i am asking

what does co-witness mean in gun talk...????

Typically, it means seeing both iron and electronic (red dot) sights in your sight picture, with both being usable.

Co-witness is where you can clearly see your iron sights through a red-dot or other sightand can be used as an alternative to the red-dot for situations where the powered sight goes down.

There are 2 different levels of co-witness with 1/3 and absolute. 1/3 let's you see the bottom third of your irons and absolute let's you see the entire iron sight through the red-dot sight.
