What if you designed a cartridge?

In the century-plus since the US Army came out with the '06, has any new cartridge challenged its preeminence? The .338 Win Mag won't kill North American big game any deader than the venerable '06.

However, if I were designing a cartridge for all North American big game hunting, I'd design the .280 Rem.

In the century-plus since the US Army came out with the .45 Auto, no other self-defense cartridge has challenged its preeminence.

Most often, new doesn't translate to better.

I haven't shot anything larger than a whitetail or muley, but that was with a 22cal. I do have 270 in a blr that's nice.
