True. They broke the law to get here and should be held to account. The very least pay some sort of financial penalty/tax, get rid of the incentive to break the law with welfare handouts. The criminals, get them out of the country.

take care of the low hanging fruit first. deport all illegals currently in custody. track down and deport all illegals affiliated with any gang (including the "he-man woman haters club") or who are wanted for crimes committed back in their home country. deport all illegals who were convicted of any crime back in their home country, whether they served their time or not. get rid of any criminal element. we already have enough american criminals. that'll be a good start.

dealing with the people, particularly family units, that truly came here for a better life is a different story. i'm not sure what that looks like, but by no means does it mean amnesty in any way shape or form.

For what amounts to a misdemeanor crime? Do you know how much it costs to maintain a prisoner incarcerated for life?

If I was running the show the very first thing I would do would be to secure our borders.

Then I would pick up everybody coming through and there would be one criteria, "Is this person's presence in the United States a net benefit or a net detriment to the United States of America?"

If the answer is "Yes" they stay. If not then we immediately release them back into Mexico and let Mexico deal with repatriating them to wherever they're from.

Realistic solution. Start shut down the border. No you can't stop everyone, but, we can do 1000X better than we are, and illegal entry is automatic deportation and never to be able to hold a visa or green card. Next with no taxpayer funded help. No food, medical, housing, nothing, nada, zip. Next anyone found guilty to allowing Illegals to work 10 in prison years for each offence for the person doing the heiring. If it is a corp. 5 years for the CEO, (Respondeat superior & Vicarious liability).
Make life so hard and miserable that no wants to come illegally, and those that are here can't wait to get away.
Don't give me any of that crap "jobs Americans won't do". They would work if the jobs were available, and they couldn't live easier and better than the working man and woman by sitting on their @$$.
