For general all around use, target, self defence, hunting what is your general do it all sight that you find works for you. And how has it changed?
Now personally I think there are probably hundreds of answers to this. Everyone is different, with unique characteristics both mental and physical, and different training all of which influences their choice.
I used to prefer an express setup on handguns and rifles both. This consisted of a v notch rear sight, often with a single vertical line on the bottom of the notch and a gold or ivory bead up front. This worked well for me.
Then I started getting older and I found that on a handgun a bright green front sight was easier to focus on for me. Along with this I now prefer a serrated or plain black rear sight, no dots preferred.
One day maybe I will get this setup on my lever action but for now it's still the gold bead setup but not quite a true express rear sight.
