Just read that Winchester is acquiring Ammo Inc. Say what you will about either company, this doesn't look good for the consumer.
Ammo Inc has consistently proven to be one of the more affordable options in my part of the world. They have been the only brand of .44 Special I have found anywhere for the last couple of years. I am not optimistic that either of these trends will continue under Winchester's management.
The press release I saw at Ammoland news (sorry I can't figure out how to incorporate a link) indicates that the purchase should help Winchester to "lower costs of existing high volume products". Also claims that this will "increase our ability to participate in higher margin specialty rounds at a cost advantage".
Or, to phrase it in simpler language, they are going use this capacity to help them save money making their bread and butter products. If there's any room left over, they will use it to make civilian ammo at inflated prices.
Awesome.
