Anni, to add to this if one is getting a firearm ready to use on a hunting trip the scent of the treatment one used to winterize will not be an attractant to most animals in woods. I use Ballistol but I don’t apply it until hunting season is over unless my rifle gets wet if I get caught out in the rain.

If one lives in the parts of the country that have "real" winter conditions you can't make your guns winter proof but only winter ready.
