This is a British Enfield Prototype Light Rifle. These popped up in 1942 as an Enfield prototype for a simplified and lightened Enfield rifle.

They passed up on that one, but produced the Mark 5 (Jungle Carbine) in 1945. However, the Mark 5 wasn't around very long due to several flaws. I have one that I shoot from time to time.
