Would you buy a Canik?

Turkey made, no spare magazines around but would you own one?
i did, and i have...the first was the TP9SF, then i got rid of it, cuz i wanted something else.

last year, i bought the (then new model) METE SFx.

i love it, shoots great, great trigger.

however yes too, getting parts from the importer, Century Arms is not easy and you really must just sit an wait.

it's not the importer but the factory that is having supply issues.

right now, due to a new state law, we can only have 10 rd mags, so like any other Canik part i wanted..??

i am on the emailing list for when they come in.

but for a good dependable great shooting gun..??

you get a great deal for the pricing

@KillerFord1977 if i recall, wants to buy a couple from all the great things he hears about the Canik brand, from owners like me and others.

yet, he hesitates.....??

he's gonna be sorry, when the prices increase, and the Caniks will be as hard to come by as the SA-35 and Garrison, and Ronin....

I have a Huglu shotgun that a friend brought back for me from deployment 30 years ago. I shot thousands of rounds of competition trap with it until the barrel vents fell off. I had the vents soldered back on and it hangs on the wall now. But the action on that gun is built like a tank.

Definitely a hard pass on Turkish shotguns for me. Life is too short to **** with cheap shotguns.

I know a few different guys with Stoegers and most of them have problems of one sort or another. My boss has an O/U that the vent rib has detached itself in a couple places. I'll end up trying to repair that one for him. Either sheet silver solder slid under the block and heated up or Gorilla glue.

I know what you mean. I shoot a K-80 on clays and a Browning Grade VI Citori for bird hunting. It kind of hurts my feelings to handle an inferior shotgun.

I have seen several come through. One observation I have is it seems A LOT of them suffer from light primer strikes causing FTF with such a variety of ammo it’s not a hard primer issue that certain brands are known for but everything.

I wasn’t interested before but for what I have seen definitely wouldn’t do a Canik

They do come with nice sights though

I recently purchased a Canik SFX Rival. I is the least expensive firearm I've purchased in the last 10 years, and also the most reliable. No malfunctions in the first 650 rounds fired of cheap range ammo (Tula steel and Norma brass). Found a ProMag aftermarket magazine that hasn't failed yet after about 10-15 cycles (18 round mag), the pistol came with 2 magazines. No Sig, Springfield or Smith & Wesson I've ever purchased went this long without a malfunction. To each his own.

I’ve been by several of my LGS and they all have them in stock. Not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing. Testimony to Canik’s distribution system though. I do like the sights, price point is good and aesthetically they’re not bad Imo. I’m not quite there though.
Just know you will NOT be able to buy parts or magazines if you do make the buy...

Plenty of fan boys for Canik. Tisas too. Some reviews say the Tisas version of the BHP is better than the original.

None of my Springfields or S&W have ever had a malfunction. And that's over thousands of rounds.
Pretty lucky my man. S&W Shield, SA 10mm Ronin, SA M1A, S&W M&P15-2, Sig P365, SA Hellcat, VP9...all have had hiccups with various ammo at some point for me, some more than others. The Canik is the first and only firearm that has gone this long without one for me. I'm expecting it at any time, mind you.

I'm not a Canik fan by definition, I won't be buying another one due to the lack of magazines and parts.

I have 2 Shields, neither of which have ever had a single issue and both of which are well over 2000 rounds now. I took a class with my M2.0 .45 a couple weeks ago. About 300 rounds total. The gun was so hot it was burning my hip through my Crossbreed Mini Tuck. WWB, Sellior and Belliot and Blazer Brass. Rolling around in the dirt, gun covered in sweat, muddy mags being jammed in and out of it. The 300th shot was as accurate as the first.

and that sadly, is thier downfall.

if the gun was not dependable, i'd have not bought this second one.

too, as i mentioned my state's "butt-sitters" at the state house that conjure up laws for our own good, make it nearly impossible for me to take this Canik to the public range, as they would be "complicit" in breaking the 10 round magazine law, recently passed.

but i still have 180 days to do something, like take it to the range several more times, and have a blast with it, and the 18 and 20 round mags.

i can always take it to the private club, as i am always by myself there.....meaning, no one to be "complicit" with my breaking the law, and being a felon doing so......

ain't that a kick, i am a legal gun owner, a tried and proven and licensed CCW holder, and yet, i'll be a felon for having a high capacity magazine, or 2, or 3, or 40.......

a lawsuit has been filed by a law firm, who's many lawyers, ARE gun owners themselves, for this state to have NOT grandfathered in previous ownership.
