XD Mod 3 Plate Torq?

Bear007

Custom
I have received my 1st ever optic plate to install on my new XD Mod 3 and I have the Holosun 507C X2 Red Dot ordered. Since there is no paper work accompanying the plate I'm just curious what the torq spec for the plate should be?
I imagine the Holoson will have a torq spec in the manual for the red dot itself.

PS - For some reason I have a terrible time "searching" on this forum. I search and read, search and read, etc. It goes on forever and never really find a relevant thread.

Search function on this forum sucks….period!!

Per SA’s customer service the plate screws on the XD and Hellcat (cover plate) are 15 inch pounds. I would use a torque indicator and forget the lock tight. This is what I have done with several different SA pistols and haven’t had any come loose or strip any threads yet. FWIW.
Unless you’re using the screws that come with the Holosun, which have thread locker already on them, I would skip the LocTite on the optic too.

My pistol, rifle, and especially my shotgun optics and mounts get LocTited. I always blue LocTite. I rather be safe than sorry, plus all of the manufacturer supplied screws I've ever received also has LocTite on them. Having the LocTite there never caused an issue for me and gave me some extra peace of mind that the optic wasn't going anywhere.

Not sure what the dry blue thread locker on factory screws is. Blue loctite 242 and 243 are anaerobic adhesive, they only cure in the absence of oxygen.

$100 Chinese optic, no doubt with crap screws ( Romeo 5). Been installed on my KSG25 for about 5 years and literally thousands of rounds, almost entirely buck and slugs. No Loc-tite. Still zero'ed.

In fact, unlike many people I have never had any optic come loose ever. And it's not like I'm a "Casual" shooter.

Not to drudge this tired argument up again, but I would just say this. If you insist on using Loc-tite, lower the torque value by at least 5% and make sure if you ever want to remove the optic that you use a quality, well fitting Torx driver. Or don't, it's your optic/rail/slide.

Funny how there used to never be any mention of thread locker in any optic manuals until all of a sudden there was. I think manufacturers don't really expect most people to be bothered by things like proper torque.

Oh well, everything ain't for everybody. With any luck we won't have too many " I stripped the shite out of this screw, does anyone have any advice how to get it out" threads. :)
