XD night sights

I want to put some tritium night sights on my XD, but have heard the stock sights are on pretty tight. In your opinion, should I get the sight pusher and blocks and do it myself? Should I take it to a local gunsmith? Im fairly mechanically minded as I’ve worked on cars and done maintenance for a long time now. What are the chances mess up slide/ dovetail? I will probably end up doing this with my XDe also I believe, if that affects the cost v. benefit ratio.

I tried changing the rear sight on my Hellcat. I don't have a pusher, I have always used a wood dowel and tapped them out on my Glocks. I could not budge that sight even with a steel punch and a good sized hammer. They are tight! I did not damage the sight or the gun. I don't know if a sight pusher would move them or not. I gave up and sold the pistol. My eyes do better with three dot sights rather than the U notch set up that is on the Hellcat. I have an XDm but I have never tried to do anything with the sights. I am guessing they will be very tight as well.

For less money than a pusher costs and a ridiculously fast turn around time I’d just send the slide to XDMan and be done with it.

I would say yes, plus I warranty the work, so If I break you sights I will replace them.

^ For me, it was worth sending all of my slides In to @xdman . He does *excellent* work.

https://www.xdtalk.com/threads/xdm-fiber-optic-sight.197778/#post-3275162 - The reference thread is no longer there, but I took the pistol he installed sights on to Chris Cerino's Handgun Accuracy Clinic, and it was right-on.
He put TFX Pros on my VP9 and I have taken it to several classes now and it is also dead on. Excellent price and fast turn around time. I see no point in doing it myself.

^ I do my other guns with a pusher, but for the potential headaches of the XDms, it's so much easier to just package it away and send it to James. :)
