XD-S 45acp Gen 1 - POA - sight adjustment?

I recently purchased a used XD-S 45acp Gen 1 (Mod 1) . No modifications made to it, and is about 8 years. I took it to the range and shot about 100 rounds (Federal and Magtech) . No jams, no issues with ejecting, pretty much ok all around. But something I couldn't figure out is if the sights need adjustment or "operator error". The first few rounds missed the target completely. The next few rounds I adjusted my aim a little higher, and was able to hit the target, but was lower than what I was aiming. I adjusted my aim again, and this time aiming for the "head" of the target, and all rounds landed at center mass. I checked the owners manual on POA, and it said "The bullet should impact the target at the point visible at the top of the front sight." - So this means the front sight, ( correctly lined up with the rear sight), where its pointing, that's where the shot should land?

FYI there was a recall on the earlier version of the XDs, here is the link, how far away was you shooting? With these small pistols, limp wristing is easy to occur, as for the recall, I just wanted to let you know just in case.

Thank you for the fast reply Annihilator. Unfortunately my XD-S serial number isn't part of the recall, and already has the safety roll pin upgraded.

I was about 7.5 yards which is kind of troublesome because the manual said 25 yards. It could be because of the size of the pistol, but I seem to have a better grip when I used the 7 round extended mag. Although it did show some improvement, it still shot lower than should have. I'm guessing that would be from limp wristing as well?

Next time I goto the range, I'll bring some of the diagnostic targets with me.

Early on, I had a the bad habit of limp wristing, that's why I mentioned it, yea, 25 yards is way to far for a small gun to get it sighted in like that, the furtherest I do on small guns might be 15 yards at the most, but mostly I do 7 yards. Glad your gun already had the upgrade, maybe try a different brand of ammo??? or like you said adjust your aim a tad more, honestly, without being there, its very hard to diagnose your issue, sorry I couldn't help you more.

I believe every gun shoots different and requires a different aim to achieve a good POA I’d shoot the gun more to learn the gun and see if things improve.

I'd shoot it off a bench rest and either swap out sights if necessary or start filing. It's not WWI carrying a rattling ass GI 1911A1 that you gotta figure out where the gun is hitting and memorize it.
