XDM Elite OSP 45acp 3.8" Going back for repairs after one day.

AK47MAN

I picked my gun up yesterday. Tried removing optics plate to install a
RMR Red Dot. The rear screw would not budge at all. Even used a T-Handle.
The screw now is stripped and I have to call SA customer service tomorrow
to send it back.

This sucks. I haven't even shot this gun once; And I have to send it back.

Anybody else out there have a problem with their optics plate screws being
torqued too tight? This is a quality issue.

I suspect Loc-Tite.

I never seen Loc-Tite do this. It's more like they used an Impact Gun on the screws.
Even using a T-Handle did not break it loose. This really sucks. I hope I can hold
my temper on the phone tomorrow morning....
Using LocTite and over tightening the screw will absolutely do this. Most T handles are thin and don’t give you a lot of torque. I would use a good quality hardened Torx driver and make sure it’s in the screw and stays in the screw nice and snugly. And if it still felt like it was going to slip or break I’d put a hot soldering iron on the screw for a minute and then try it.

You can hold your temper champ. One of the screws on one of my Elites was too tight and stripped. My torx wrench got boogered up to and don't know which failed first, but the torx head screw was screwed. The other 2 came out and I don't recall seeing red Loctite. Instead of heat, I put my slide in the freezer then used a suitable Phillips head bit the next morning and it came out. I was able to get a replacement torx head metric screw at our local Ace Hardware in their gun screws & pieces area. All is well. Have a great day tomorrow.

Sorry to hear, I have the XDME 3.8" compact 10mm and the Hellcat OSP, both are optics ready but I've not put optics on them. Hate to hear you had problems so fast...
Oh yeah, I love this Thunder Kitty😉

Shortly after purchasing my first OSP ready Elite 3.8 10mm I called Springfield CS to find out what optic would fit and order the appropriate plate and the CSR told me to make sure I loosen each screw evenly and not to loosen and remove one screw at a time as this will cause the last screw to get jammed and impossible to remove.
That worked for me.

Hope that helps.

I have a Sig P365 xl.
When I wanted to remove the cover plate to install my red-dot, one screw came out and other screw started to strip the Phillips head.
I took to gun shop and in 4 mins, he removed that screw and installed my red-dot, gave me extra screws in a bag and no charge.

That is also one of the ranges I shoot at.

Update: I talked to SE customer service this morning. Going back via FedEx today. They will
fix my slide and install the RMR plate for me. VERY EXCELLENT customer service there..!!
Thank you to EVERYONE here that has replied to this!

The customer service gal was awesome on the phone! She told me she gets calls about this
problem weekly-daily. I am 110% satisfied with SA's Customer Service! I just hope I get my
slide back in a timely matter....AK.
