I've got on of the original XDs 9mm and it's always struggled with last round hold open and it doesn't matter what mag I'm using. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how can I fix it? Thanks

If you’re certain that it doesn’t matter what magazine your using that’s causing the slide to not hold open on last round then I would call Springfield Armory and discuss with them about having it looked at.
Are you using OEM magazines or aftermarket?

Before going any further with diagnosis, let's baseline something, @Brad Ritonya . 
Are you a right-handed shooter, or left-handed?
If you are right-handed, have you tried shooting the pistol left-handed, using only your left hand? Do you still see problems with last-round lock with left-hand-only shooting?
