You can decide?

The McCloskeys are confrontational people and also complete idiots. All they had to do was go inside their home and call 911. Had they done that the crowd of protestors would have walked on by their house and continued to the house of the Mayor of St. Louis where they were headed for a demonstration. Also, at no time did any protestor set foot on McCloskey property.

Having said that I do feel they should get their weapons back.

I really don't understand this hostility. The McCloskeys were just ordinary people suddenly confronted with a terrifying situation that could have gone a thousand different ways. As others pointed out, we were not there. We should not act like we know what they perceived and had reason to fear. We should give them the benefit of the doubt, not second guess them from the comfort of our couches after the fact.

All they had to do is call 911??? Have you already forgotten the context of those times? Numerous violent, rampaging riots were destroying areas of cities all over the country. Police were largely doing NOTHING! There was no confidence in law and order at all. There still isn't. Blithely suggesting they had nothing to fear, and that the police would just step in and handle it, is really unfair.

The mob was just headed for the Mayor's house??? How, exactly, would the McCloskeys know that? They had no way to know what the angry mob intended or would choose to do. They had every reason to fear the worst.

The "protestors" didn't go on their property??? Maybe that's because of the show of force the McCloskeys displayed. Maybe the "protestors" were restrained by those firearms. We can't know, of course, what would have happened. But we do know what didn't happen. The McCloskeys and their home were not harmed. I call that success.

Those of us who have more education in tactics and strategies pertaining to firearms and self defense may cringe at some of their behavior that day. So what? Not everyone can be expected to be some kind of high level operators. When confronted with a sudden, overwhelming danger they stood up to protect themselves, their home and their neighborhood like true Americans. I stand with them.

Brandishing a firearm is a crime. I can't wave or point a firearm in anyones general direction from my yard, from my stoop or my window, let alone in public. I would be a damn fool to do such a thing as they did. First, I'm tipping my hand. Now the crowd knows I'm armed. Second, I've just invited an armed confrontation. Not something I want. Third, I've given away both my and my wife's position. I'm a clear target with no cover. I can't support her, nor can she provide support for me. Even in a panic with the world in turmoil, such as it was, I would maintain cover. I would NOT seek out a challenge. Property can be replaced and rebuilt. That's what fire extinguishers and insurance are for. Lives, they're a one shot deal. Once it's gone, it's GONE!
Dude, I'm not trying to draw you out into an internet argument, just explaining how most of us see their actions as flawed.

A gated yard is no different than it being the door on your house. They broke the gates down and weren't invited. If the firearms were actually pointed at the trespassers and the trespassers gun(s) were/are holstered/shouldered could be a turning point? If you wait for intent then it could be too late. Too be continued.........................

They didn’t have a gated yard and while the protestors did go through the gate of the subdivision/community, one half of the pedestrian gate was open when the first of the protestors entered. There is video of that. When the other half of the gate was broken down is up for discussion. The protest was designed to be peaceful and it was peaceful despite the confrontation the McCloskeys initiated.

Having the constitutional right to own firearms doesn’t give you the right to do incredibly stupid things with those weapons.

BTW, access to that "gated" community is very easy by way of Lake Ave on Lindell Blvd where there is no gate. Had the protestors taken that route none of this would have happened. I was so disappointed when the McCloskeys made a plea deal with the prosecutor’s office. I sooooo wanted this to go to trial.

I couldn't remember all/most of the details? Thanks for the redirection.

The Missouri Supreme Court suspended the Mccloskey's law licenses but delayed the suspension and put the two on probation for one year. They can continue practicing law but if they violate any laws the suspension will take effect. Idiots with guns always provide such good entertainment.

Yeah but the State (is think it's state. Govt attorney for sure) attorney was crooked and was using them to get the heat off of himself. Again, only as I understand it.
