Is This the Best CCW Vest?

With the weather getting cooler, our options for carrying increase. I’m no fan of cold weather, but I do like having more carry options. The Travel Safe Concealment Vest from Concealed Carry is one of those options.

This lightweight, four-ply Taslan wash and wear vest is non-shrink. Taslan is a modern, high-tech polyester fabric. The design of the vest immediately caught my eye, but I wondered if it was big enough to carry my handguns.

Under the Hood

With “concealment” in the name, I think it’s reasonable to expect the vest to succeed in this goal. The vest itself is very strong and lightweight, and it offers you a lot of pocket options — both inside and out.

While the internal pockets are large enough to fit even a full-sized 1911 such as my Springfield TRP, the firearm wouldn’t be secure. Fortunately, Concealed Carry offers several pocket options for adapting the vest to your carry needs.

The inside of each pocket has a large Velcro patch sewn in. The company offers internal pocket holsters (you can see them here) that also have Velcro and can secure in place. Besides handgun holsters, there are also magazine holders to cover all your needs.

Lots of Options

With internal pockets on both sides, you’re all set if you’re either right- or left-handed. This vest has two large inside upper chest pockets, with two inside accessory pockets, all with Velcro sewn inside.

The beauty of this system is that you can set up the vest for your particular carry needs. Place the gun holster and matching magazine pouch exactly where you want it. Also, the holsters and mag pouches are offered in a variety of sizes for handguns, and the pouches are designed for small pistol magazines all the way up to rifle magazines. Set this up just like you want it.

Vested in the Details

Beyond the CCW aspects of the vest, the Travel Safe Vest is simply a well-designed garment. It has four snap front closures as well as a hook & loop wind strip. Additionally, there are several colors from which to choose, including stone, steel gray, black, brown, charcoal and navy. Sizes range from small all the way up to 5XL.

For my testing sample, I went with the charcoal color and a large size. I’m not a big person at 5’9″ and 195 pounds, and the large fit me very well.

Conclusion

This vest will allow you to securely carry your handgun safely, be it hiking, biking or just going about your day. No one will know you’re legally carrying. When concealed right, no one will even know you’re doing it. And I highly recommend that you also get the appropriate pocket insert for the firearm you carry. This a great vest and a terrific CCW companion.
