Greetings and Salutations!
It's a lovely, peaceful spring day and I spent the afternoon inside a loud gun range. I'm sure you guys understand. I got my favorite lane, #4.
The plan today was to continue with a couple of long barrel pistols and try to push some distance. Like last week, I brought out the Ruger Mark IV Target and XD-M Elite 5.25 Precision. I'll break out the VP9 later.
I loaded up 20 rounds in each magazine for the XDM and shot 10-shot strings for the most part. I used the Blazer Brass 124 grain and some Aguila Super Extra .22LR for the Ruger.
Starting with the XDM, I'm going to practice on a few B-8 targets at 10 yards. It performed flawlessly today. I should shoot this gun more often.
The first target came back like this. Meh, not horrible for this old noob. Only one out of the 8 ring.
I'd printed out a bunch of B-8 centers with the yellow X-ring. I think I need to clean my print heads. Target #2 is looking better.
As usual, I get a little cocky and started to shoot a little faster. Hence the wider spread on target #3.
Target #4 looks about the same.
I tried to regain my composure with target #5. I was dangerously close to getting them all in the black.
According to target #6, I must be getting tired or something.
I decided to change it up for target #7. I taped on a 1/3 size USPSA silhouette along with a couple of 4" reactive bullseyes. I'll try to put 20 rounds in the A zone and 10 rounds on each reactive circle. It came back like this.
Hmm, that left circle I just kept shooting left. On the right circle, most were dangerously close except for the one wide hit indicated. I'm going to practice with the XDM a little more and see if I can get more consistent. Wow, 100 rounds goes quick when using 20 rounds in each mag. Let's move on to the Mark IV. I stuck on some 8" reactive circles and sent the target immediately out to 15 yards. I put 10 hits on each target.
As you can see, I let a couple get entirely off the targets. Let's patch these up and see if I can do better. Here's the next target, same thing.
OK, the left target looks pretty good but I let one get off of the middle target. The Mark IV was giving me issues, quite a few FTE. I'm pretty sure it was the ammo. I put a drop of oil on the bolt carrier and it seems to help a little but I'll use a different ammo with it next time. Now it's time for one of my EDC units, your favorite and mine, the VP9.
I had five preloaded magazines from last week. I started at 10 yards, them moved to 12 yards, and finally 15 yards. Here's 20 rounds on the 12x18 silhouette at 10 yards.
I'm really liking these new sights on this pistol. Here is 10 rounds on a patched-up target at 12 yards.
And finally we'll hang a fresh target and push it out to 15 yards.
OK, 20 rounds later the target came back like this.
Yep, just a couple are really wide low-left. I'll practice more at these distances and hopefully tighten up these groups. This was a beneficial practice session today. I packed up my kit and headed home.
But first, just for grins and giggles, here are the last two targets side by side.
That VP9 is very impressive. It even makes me seem like I can shoot halfway decently. With a little more practice, who knows? Thanks for hanging out with me. If you had half as much fun as I did today, then I had twice as much fun as you. Be blessed!
Thank you for your indulgence,
