There was a little more to it. While lots of folks gravitated back to 1911’s or 45’s during the AWB because well if I can only have 10 they might as well be 10 45 rounds.Yeah, but when you realize that .45GAP was Glock betting on the 94AWB being renewed, it’s just not that cool anymore.
It seems more so as Glock was trying to piggyback off of Sig’s success with their 357 Sig. where Sig was duplicating the 357 mags legendary power in an auto. Glock was simply bringing 45 acp ballistics in a 9mm size package. It was more successful than most thought.
I know folks involved with both Florida and Georgia LE firearms programs and they both said it was quite well liked because it was very effective.
Like all things cost just got to be not worth the squeeze when you had the R&D bringing us things like HST Critical Duty and some newer Gold Dot stuff in 9mm. And with that proving an increased effectiveness for Les an expensive rounds which when you outfit several thousands of officers saves $$$$$$ the writing is on the wall!
