reading this thread, got me to thinking about checking mine. 1st one is a SA Milspec about 5 yrs old, 2nd is a colt with the frame dated to 1917 (haven't checked the rest of it yet, but will) and of course we cannot leave out Mr Browning 1911-380 :-)

IMO, the best option is the one, the person is most comfortable with.

A 1911 is only as dangerous, as the person carrying it!

Having said all that, you will not be surpassing a 1911 per se, you will be developing a whole new firearm.
