What’s the Best Way to Clean Brass for Reloading?

I left dry tumbling behind very soon after I started reloading (a mere 2 1/2 years ago) and went to the FART with pins. Absolutely lovely brass. That said, I picked up a large ultrasonic cleaner in January, and I've got to say...it isn't "as good" as the FART, but it is significantly less work...

First Look: Desert FDE Hellcat 9mm

Just placed my order for one. Was trying to get a black Hellcat OSP from MidwayUSA, but they didn’t list my FFL, and sold out before he could respond. Of course it shouldn’t take 2 days to get FFL data uploaded, but that’s out of my control. So...in the meantime, the FDE model was released, so...

My First Electronic Powder Dispenser - Frankfort Arsenal’s Intellidropper

I have a scale that measures 2 digits past the decimal on grain scale, 3 on grams. It measured one of my 50g check weights at 50.000g and the other at 49.998g. Using it as my comparison my confidence in the Intellidropper grew with each round. After confirming that the highest reading on a...

My First Electronic Powder Dispenser - Frankfort Arsenal’s Intellidropper

I completed my first 50 rounds of .45 ACP with 5.4gr Universal and Nosler 230gr JHP. Pretty much the same experience as with the CFE-Pistol trial. 3 reported overcharges, one undercharge. The under measured 5.3gr, verified on a separate scale. The 3 overcharges, 2 were above 5.46gr, triggering...

My First Electronic Powder Dispenser - Frankfort Arsenal’s Intellidropper

Hodgdon...I bought an 8lb keg from Gander Outdoors last year, expecting to pay $160. When I was charged about $80 (exact number escapes me), I ran back into the store (after explaining to my wife what a steal that was) and picked up a second jug...I was actually pondering a 3rd.

RELOADERS CORNER: MORE MISTAKES OVER MORE TIME, NOW WHAT?

I was just telling my wife that this is exactly what should have happened. There is always someone (like you and me) willing to put in the effort to re-love these components. However, there’s no way I’m throwing that powder away. If it was 1000 rounds of stray rounds marked defective I may do...

My First Electronic Powder Dispenser - Frankfort Arsenal’s Intellidropper

After a year of loading frustration that began with my ill-advised purchase of 16lbs of Universal, a powder I had never used, my wife insisted I use my Amazon gift cards to buy this: So who am I to refuse? Undoubtedly my best purchase since my adventure began 2 1/2 years ago. Of course the...

Update 03/01/2020.....Tumblers..... Going round and round!

I continued to experience leaks with my FART caps, I had to use a strap wrench to tighten the end caps enough to quit the leaks. Cautioned against that by another forum, so I applied silicon grease, normally used to seal water resistant watches after opening. Very thin coat. Did that once nearly...

Trying New Bullets and Loads For .300 AAC Blackout

This was a purely informational post. I gave up trying to cycle a 10.5” Carbine Gas barrel, bought a new 10.5” pistol gas (which is what I wanted but misclicked and didn’t double check). If I ever get a suppressor I can always put that barrel back in play. So anyway, my original reason for...

Trying New Bullets and Loads For .300 AAC Blackout

For comparison, here are a number of samples of ammo I’m planning to test at my next outing. The range of load lengths is pretty extreme, so it will truly show the versatility of the .300 AAC Blackout if all of these run my guns.

Trying New Bullets and Loads For .300 AAC Blackout

Thankfully, my indoor range, of which I am a monthly member, is open for 2 hours a day for shooting with no public access. It’s a fairly inconvenient time, 10am to 12pm, but it’s open, and that let me start out some new loads for my 2 AR pistols in .300 AAC Blackout, There are no projectiles...

A Newbie Lesson in Making Loading Assumptions - .40 S&W, But Applicable to Other Calibers

Much appreciated. That opens up some opportunities for me. I guess I need to get out more...and be certain I’m comparing 165gr projectiles to OTHER 165gr projectiles.

A Newbie Lesson in Making Loading Assumptions - .40 S&W, But Applicable to Other Calibers

It was an interesting study...right before I received my Springfield EMP I bought 4 boxes of factory ammo. Winchester USA Ready 165gr, heavy .419“ crimp, 1.120” seating depth, FMJ flat nose Herter’s Target, 180gr, .420” crimp, 1.128” seating depth, FMJ flat nose Fiocchi Pistol Shooting...

A Newbie Lesson in Making Loading Assumptions - .40 S&W, But Applicable to Other Calibers

If you have the Sierra check the measurements. I’d appreciate it. It is a lot of bearing surface. I paid no attention to it at the time, but I do recall thinking...my, that’s a mighty impressive projectile, and a lot rounder tip profile than I’d expected.

A Newbie Lesson in Making Loading Assumptions - .40 S&W, But Applicable to Other Calibers

I recently received a new .40 S&W projectile from Everglades Ammo, a 165gr JHP. I’ve been really happy with their JHP projectiles for .380 ACP and 9mm Luger, so I was really anxious to test these 165gr JHP in my new Springfield EMP 40. I’ve run a number of powders under my standard Berry’s 155gr...

    Your favorite Springfield

Good catch, Texas. That “1“ is pretty important isn’t it. I’m guilty of losing a 1...what I should have said is I seated these to 1.125”, I will try seating them to 1.120” and ensure I can load 8 rounds in my magazines. Thanks for the catch...aside from my typo, the rounds were loaded properly...

    Your favorite Springfield

They are Everglades Ammo house brand. Very similar in appearance to Hornady XTP, except that Hornady doesn’t make a 165gr XTP bullet.
