Does it matter how you kill it? Avoids the firearm related issues, but still considered "poaching" in my state. I would put the animal out of its misery and deal with the consequences if any. Shoot, shovel, and shut up.

Thanks for the post. I didn't know much about the Maynard. If there was a hole in the base of the cartridge to allow the cap ignition to fire, how was the powder retained in the cartridge?
Kel Tecs. Love 'em or hate 'em. I'm a fan. Sub 2000, PMR 30, PF9, P3AT, P11, P32. All have been reliable. PMR 30 needs to be loaded according to instructions including the recommended ammunition.
