UPDATE: I picked the Savage Axis 30-06. Sighted in at 100yds in four shots.

Seems most of you would choose 30-06...is it mainly the versatility in being able to take down most game? What's your preferred round for deer? Is it much different for elk?

I clean after every range trip. Not always as soon as I get home. But sometimes depends how many we took to the range. I'll clean a couple that night. Couple more next day. All that said....if its a gun I carry. Gets cleaned before I carry it again. Just to know everything is in working order
