    Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec .45

I've owned the Mil-Spec for a couple years and carry it in black bear country, loaded with Underwood 255 +P, coated hard cast flat point bullet, advertised 925 fps or Buffalo Bore, 255 +P, hard cast gas check bullet . Both similar accuracy. Conceals pretty well in a Milt Sparks Summer Special 2...

The Lost Art? How to Read a Map

I've worked on fire lookouts for several years and can't count the number of times people have arrived at the lookout and asked what the name of the lookout was and what road to take to get back to civilization. They'd point to a prominent peak and ask if that was Mt Rainier, for example, which...

Ayoob: The 1911’s Strengths (and Weaknesses)?

I have owned, and still own, and shot several Glocks mostly in 40 S&W. My daily carry was a Glock 23 for many years. I now carry my Springfield Ronin (commander size) in 45 ACP. It doesn't feel any heavier than the G23 and has a narrower profile than the Glock. The Ronin and my Mil-Spec 1911 are...

Review: Never Unarmed .45 ACP 1911 Magazine

Even if the total is over $65 they still charge shipping (I tried that).

Review: Never Unarmed .45 ACP 1911 Magazine

I tried to order a couple magazines and their grips but since the total was less than $65 I was unable to checkout. I guess I'm not a big enough spender for them to sell me their products. Good luck with that business model.

    Something profound?

I'm 77 and still buying guns, shooting and grateful for the life I've had so far. Many of my friends, in and out of the military, never got the chance to reach this age. Enjoy life!

    Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec .45

Good advice. I installed Hogue grips and it is now much more pleasant to shoot. The grips are also long enough to wrap all my fingers around it. It gives up a bit of concealability, but I also can practice more so it's worth it.

    Review: Springfield Armory 1911 Mil-Spec .45

No posts since 2021? Might as well chime in anyway ;-). I'm really enjoying my Mil-Spec, bought this year. I have not experienced the "hammer bite" others talk about, but maybe that's just a function of how I grip the pistol. I am puzzled a bit about the recoil issue, since I find it to be very...
