1911 ambi safety removal

Ok. I’ve got my Tisas Carry .45 and I want to install a single side safety.
Moving the lever to the halfway point - or any other point - hasn’t allowed me to wiggle it out.

Anybody know any tricks that don’t involve MSH disassembly?

I cannot assist, but why just a single side ?
Good question, and hopefully this’ll make a bit of sense at least:
- The Tisas stock ambi’s have rather wide thumb pads. Got me a slimmer one in ss (wilson). This is the Carry model (4.25” bbl) and I think it belongs to have a slimmer profile.
- They’re black, and the frame is stainless (it’s an added finish I think- not real ss). I’d kinda like to elim that & certain other contrasts. The extractor, hammer, MSH and barrel bushing are all also black. Don’t mind some, but not ALL those. Thumb safety & extractor are the most glaring. Bbl bushing is solved with my Ed Brown “match” barrel that came with its own ss bushing ( I’ve fitted the barrel already ).

Nah, I don’t havta do it. But from the vids I’ve seen, looked like a quick low-skill thing !!

Gotcha 👍
Good luck and happy shooting !

I'm trying to disassemble the ambi on my Tisas also. I just want to adjust the leaf spring to lighten the trigger. That requires removal of the grip safety and the thumb safety pins the grip safety. I need to remove the thumb safety and no luck. Have you had any luck?

Yep….. I had to put mine away due to work and other ‘stuff’ going on, but finally got it back out a couple months later. Turns out the Tisas Carry ambi was indeed the standard male side & U-shape female side as in all the other 1911 ambi’s I’ve seen (admittedly not many). They were just hammered in REALLY tight…
Keep working on it ! Try twisting one side one way while twisting the other the opposite way a bit after going heavy with the oil (to get it onto the pins as much as possible)… mine finally pulled out a little on one side - I don’t recall which - and I used something plastic to wedge underneath to keep working it out. Point is, it didn’t suddenly pop loose.
But yeah, they are standard configuration and WILL come out !
As a tip - i recommend ordering a replacement ( Fusion, Ed Brown, or just something from Brownells ) rather than putting that dang thing back in - it looks like junk to me.

Wilson Combat has video on removal of ambi safety.

Wilson Combat videos are the real deal. And Bill is a super nice guy. Anyway, I carried a full size 1911 for decades in a Milt Sparks inside the waistband holster. I am not a lefty, so I HATE anything with an ambi safety. I carried a Springfield Loaded one time, and the safety was swept off at some point in the day the first day I carried it. Sure it had a grip safety, and sure the trigger guard was covered by leather. But that experience left me cold. Day to day carry scenarios are a lot more common in my world then having to shoot left handed. Just my opinion, but wanted to bring it up to give you guys something to think about.
