1911 Break In Period?

Has anybody else here other than I had to experience a break in period with there model 1911? Mines a Kimber Custom TLE-RL II chambered in 10mm. I was having FTF problems new out of the box, but now it seems to be cycling much better after approximately 600 rnds? Any one else experience this?
Was it all one ammo brand or from several dif brands?
How about mags?
Same mag or fail from several ?

I had 1/2-dozen FTF with my 10mm Ronin during first 300-400 rounds. None over last 1k. Ammo since (gun was) new has been S&B and Magtech...both low-power range ammo, JHP & FMJ. Have yet to fire anything but those in 10mm. I'm cheap. Expecting recoil spring to start FTF again soon. We will see. And to be honest, 6 FTF over 1500 rounds (during break-in) is not much....No FTF shooting 40S&W, go figure, but that was in the 750-1000 round range.

Depends on the 1911.

My Baer had a suggested break in of 500 rounds, but never failed in that period. My Springfield RO LW Compact had a few failures to lock back on empty, but that was on one magazine.

End of the day, a GOOD 1911 won’t need it...but since it takes a few hundred rounds tomreally get to know a pistol, it won’t hurt to do it anyway.

This.

Lots of gun makers recommend a break in period. Lots of those guns ( at least in my experience) never fail during that "break in" period. The VP9 comes to mind. Nevertheless, I wouldn't carry a gun I haven't put at least 500 rounds through first.

Glad to hear it all worked out. My father just bought a kimber custom tle ii, couldn’t talk him into the TRP price and he liked the tle over the loaded. I was helping and have been sweating it ever since praying he gets one of the good kimbers. Everyone I know (all 2) has had great running ones. But the negative reviews online had me worried. He did order two Wilson combat ETM since I have 47D mags he can use. So hopefully we find the right combo. So good to see another Kimber working out. Makes me sweat less. Still sort of wish he went with loaded but he really likes front strap checkering and look of tle. Had I found a vickers at msrp he would of went for that. But I couldn’t find any anywhere.

i have bought "some" guns that say at least 300 rds is good for a break-in period, some others have said at least 500 rds.

the way i shoot my guns, in rotation, it's gonna be a while before i reach 500 rds.

and i keep detailed records on day/date/year, ammo used, how many rounds, and cleaning/lubing, that if any gun only has a 1 year warranty, and i don't shoot the "required" break in amount, and they give me a hard time for warranty?

they'll get slapped with a file folder on that gun.

then of course, i'll never buy from that company again.

but each gun i have runs/works great.

Roger. I never reviewed the pistol before I bought it. I just said to myself. "It's a Kimber. How can I go wrong." After shootIng it the first time and getting at least one FTF every two or three mags I put through it for the first 300 rounds I really starting to sweat my purchase as well. I mean I had a lot of FTF!!! Then I researched the reviews on my paticular Kimber. And they were all using a "new" Kimber Custom TLE in 10mm. None of the reviews were using a "broke in" model. It states in my Kimber Manual it takes a minimum 500rnd break in period. I call Kimber customer service at around 250 rnds They said give it a break

in period. If I still have problems with it send it back to Kimber and they would take care of it. The guy (and a friend of mine) behind the counter at the sporting goods store where I bought the pistol. Told me that he put 1000 to 1200 rnds through his Kimber 10mm before it cycled flawlessly!!! I don't base the pleasure of any of my firearms on their cosmetics, but I do like the looks and design of the Kimber TLE and it's extremely accurate compared to a lot of other pistols I've fired in the past. Let's face it. It is a bad a** 1911! "If" it performs flawlessly shot after shot after shot. I've had no problems in approximately the last 100rnds of firing the pistol. I'm going to give it another 500rnds before I make a decision to keep, sell or trade the pistol. If I continue to have problems in the next 500 rnds? It's gone and I'm purchasing a Springfield! In my opinion a $1200 to $1300 pistlol shouldn't have FTF after the first 50rnds let alone 500. How many of you guys on this thread said their 1911 performed flawlessly since round one? A lot of you! Heck my Rock Island 1911 has performed flawlessly since round one and it's a $500-$600 pistlol! Hope my opinions and info helps! Thanks again all you guys for all your input! Shoot fun, shootsafe and shoot straight!

So I put one mag through my Kimber yesterday. One FTF and another stuck casing in the chamber! Dang it! Just when I thought it was cycling better!

Ammo manufacturer: Grizzly

Load: 220gr hard cast

The only two times I've ever had a case stuck in the chamber was in my Kimber. Both loads were 220gr hard cast. The first stuck case was Buffalo Bore ammo. The second stuck case was Grizzly ammo. In both cases. (No pun intended) the primer was missing from the casings!

Was it the ammo or the gun?!?!? Opinions please Anybody? I'm on the verge of selling this Kimber for a Springfield!

Maybe the 10mm isn't a good cartridge for any 1911 platform? Heck I just don't know!?!?
