Has anyone installed a mag well on their 1911 DS? If so, did you blend the grip module to the mag well? I installed the Dawson Precision gen 1. I definitely like the feel of it, the base of my hand sits right on it and has a nice tight feel. I did have to file down the ribs on the side of the grip and a little bit around the back of grip to get it to fit, but it’s nice and tight.

sorry to say, i don't buy magwells, the only 1911 i do have with a magwell is my Sig STX, and that came with it from the factory.
since i personally am not into speed loading, i have no need.
if you want to "chamfer" the inner sides of the gun, where it meets up with the magwell adapter, that is up to you
here is a pic of my Sig STX, with the factory installed magwell, here you can see that the inner edges of the guns magwell (except the front strap) was "chamfered" to help facilitate magwell loading...
so i leave that up to you

I did install a Dawson Precision Gen 2 magwell on my Prodigy 4.25". It is a snug fit and a tap or two of a rubber mallet does help. I did not grind down the ribs on the side, nor did I blend the bottom of the grip to the magwell. I know a lot of people do, but I just have a hard time taking a grinder to my expensive firearm.
I'm not a competitive shooter, but I do think the magwell improves the looks of the Prodigy. I guess it does make the Prodigy look more "tacticool" but to me it's more important how it helps with the grip of the pistol. One of the biggest improvements, for me anyway, is how it allows your pinky finger to rest on the magwell and gives your hand sort of a stop to help maintain your grip. To me the magwell sort of locks your hand on to the grip in a comfortable and easily repeatable position. Having the magwell acting as a sort of stop forces you to grip the gun higher and it's easier to repeat that grip every time and to make full contact with the grip safety.
If I used my Prodigy as a carry weapon, I might rethink the magwell if it interfered with holster operation, but since I don't it's no problem.
It works for me but to each their own.

thats the specific reason in my Prodidy magwell thread I recommend people get Gen 2, drop in fot not “cuttin/sanding”.
No, I didn't file the bottom of my grip. If I did shoot in competition I might consider it because when you shoot competitively you do everything possible to eliminate any accidents and to a competition shooter his firearm is a tool, nothing more and they really don't worry about the looks of their firearm, only function.
Even then the chances of a magazine catching on that lip are so infinitesimal that there's really no chance IMO.
Even race guns costing thousands of dollars don't always blend in that edge.
I would say do it if it really bothers you, but IMO it's a waste of time. Even with a Dremel or a hand file it would almost be impossible to do it without making it look butchered. Luckily grip modules on 2011s are easily replaceable, unlike most guns, so if it gets screwed up it could be replaced.
If you want to do, it's your gun, but I won't be doing mine.

The only thing I can think of is take a sharpie where the overlap is, Dremel/grind until the sharpie is gone.
But I gotta be honest, I’m not a competitive shooter (Probably gonna hit a few comps this year) and even if I was, don’t know if I’d ever get to the level where I could tell/need the difference in blending it in.
Nor…have I felt the need. No mag hang up or issues.
That being said… by all means, we all do things that mean something to us even if it means nothing/seems silly to others.

as mentioned, i do not buy nor install magwells. as a result, i do not, nor never did, chamfer any magwells on any of my guns.......the only guns that came with them already installed was my Sig STX, and ( i forgot my long gone) former Canik METE...the o/p wanted information, and i provided what i had, and told him to do as he wanted with his gun...
how did you think i told him to "go head" and chamfer his.....???
