1911 Ejector Pin R.I.P

I bought a SA 1911 Mil Spec back in September. I have almost 800 rounds through it (magtech, sig, sellier & bellot). I was at the range on Sunday when the casings were not ejecting. I get home and take it apart to find that the ejector pin broke. I was really curious why my defensive round casing's were really chewed up, especially on the rim. Is this something that is prone to breaking/common problem or does this lean more towards an outlier?

I had my warranty and sent my gun back to Springfield to replace free of charge.

Coogle: to answer your base question - No, that is NOT a common problem… in fact I’d say it’s extremely uncommon to break an extractor on ~800 rounds, especially a reputable model from a reputable maker.

Yea, you never drop a round into a 1911 chamber and then drop the slide, not good at all, you see what can happen, if the extractor doesn’t break, you can spring it out of spec.

From what I’ve read you don’t do that with any firearm. Some will actually fire if done so. Bad/dangerous practice if that’s what was done.

No sir, I have only fed through magazine.
