1911 Mil-Spec Issue

I recently purchased a new Full Size Mil-Spec 1911 and had a really bad experience. I fired 2 mags through it, but the 3rd mag shot a shell straight back so hard that it busted the middle of my forehead and left a small indention. I have never had a 1911 do this and I honestly do not want to shoot the gun again. I have emailed Springfield and I’m waiting on a response. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the gun anymore and I definitely will not be shooting it again.

Happen to check any shell casings after you took it to the noggin ?
Split case ? Deformed casing ?
Yeah the casing was fine aside from a little skin melted to it. We checked it and all of the other casings that came out of it. The only mark was top of the slide where it ejects where it hit coming out. It has baffled me on what happened and it could have just been that one bullet that was a manufacturing error but that’s why I’m on here getting goods advise from this community

I've had 5.56 cases smack me in the head after they were ejected from an overgassed Mini-14 but I've never got more then a small red mark.

I'm no forensic expert but in my opinion I'm leaning towards an ammo induced issue (hot ammo) or the potentially firing out of battery as the culprit.

I would definitely call customer service and let them know of your experience.

Yeah. I have a mini. Casings travel as fast as the bullet. 😁

I’m definitely going to call them in the morning and let them know. I’ve had plenty of 9mm and 5.56 hit me over the years, but I’ve never had anything come out with such force that it scared me for a minute. Felt like getting hit in the head with a 90 mph fastball. I hate it happened since my first shots were dead on and I was really enjoying the feel of the gun. Really love the gun but feel gun shy with this one now

Is there any chance you could have been hit with a ricochet?

Before the flared ejection port didn’t 1911 casing land on the shooter’s head? I thought i read something about that.
Only if there's a problem with the extractor and/or ejector. Once I learned how these two items SHOULD work and be set up, I don't even "flare" my ejection ports anymore, though I do have some that are lowered a bit. I haven't even seen a dinged case mouth in ages.
