Shooting paper or steel? Good call, 10mm.Is there any chance you could have been hit with a ricochet?

Dented cases are a Mini-14 trademark.Yup. Even the casings get mangled. They smash against the charging handle upon ejection. The handle has brass markings all over it. Still fun as hell to shoot though.
If you shot the other mags ok, I will venture it was ammo related, I shoot federal ammo a good bit, to me if it was gun related, the other mags should have done the same, could have been a hot round or the bullet was to far into the case which would increase the pressure a good bit, but a call to Springfield wouldn’t hurt.I recently purchased a new Full Size Mil-Spec 1911 and had a really bad experience. I fired 2 mags through it, but the 3rd mag shot a shell straight back so hard that it busted the middle of my forehead and left a small indention. I have never had a 1911 do this and I honestly do not want to shoot the gun again. I have emailed Springfield and I’m waiting on a response. I’m honestly not sure how I feel about the gun anymore and I definitely will not be shooting it again.
Trebuchet, you say? That’s going to be a great story to tell in bars. You’re going to be able to tell everyone about the time you got shot in the head. That’s definitely an ammo problem. You would need an extractor like a trebuchet to leave a wound like that.
Yea, @SimonRL likes them big words….Trebuchet, you say?
That’s weirdOk, why does the iPhone auto insert always replace good with hood, WTH, did it again just now……
I wouldn’t think so. I was shooting the center of a paper target at 35 yards with no metal involved and a dirt mound behind the target. But anything’s possible. Is there any chance you could have been hit with a ricochet?
Not to worry. As you can see you’ve got the right bunch of rocket scientists on the case. Welcome to the forum. Glad you’re ok.I wouldn’t think so. I was shooting the center of a paper target at 35 yards with no metal involved and a dirt mound behind the target. But anything’s possible.
Yepi'm going with the possibility of an over charged round. it won't be the first time factory ammo had such an issue..
yeah I had my safety Wiley xs on but guys I’ll be wearing a full on face shield from now onWere you wearing eye protection ?
Haha it would have been about 15 bullets that came back on me if it was the wife!Holy crap, never seen that happen before. glad it didn't do worse. Sure the wife didn't punch you in the forehead with her ring on and you too embarrassed to tell it?
I don't blame you though, i'd go with the gun story too. also welcome to the site and i'm just razzin ya a bit. truly glad it wasn't worse.
it's funny, just not in the humorous way, that even when i wear my safety glasses, and a baseball cap, with the cap's bill about touching those glasses, a hot brass shell casing still manages to get in between the bill, and the glasses and onto my cheek under the glasses..!!yeah I had my safety Wiley xs on but guys I’ll be wearing a full on face shield from now on

i have had shell casings bounce off the ports walls, and into my face, hit me in the forehead, go down my shirt, you name it, it's happened.
i have had my shell casings hit my guest in the head, if he stands just off to the side of me, watching my target.....
and there have been times i get hit with shell casings from the shooter in the port next to me, as his casings enter my area, then bounce off my walls.
i just never been hit as hard as you have been.
that suggests to my limited experience over these other guys, a hot loaded cartridge....
i'll say this too...try another gun, hopefully with the same "lot number" as the box you just used, and see if anything happens then as well....
easier to blame the gun 1st, then the ammo....
but still, call S/A, and explain it to them....
I have definitely had my fair share of brass pop me over the years but nothing like this. I shot the same lot of bullets throw my Glock 41 and Kimber Custom that same day with no issues but I’m definitely thinking more of it just being a freak incident with a hot round.it's funny, just not in the humorous way, that even when i wear my safety glasses, and a baseball cap, with the cap's bill about touching those glasses, a hot brass shell casing still manages to get in between the bill, and the glasses and onto my cheek under the glasses..!!
