Honestly I have been where you are. I would frankly leave it alone and pick up a Garrison. Keep the milspec and enjoy it.
I carried a 1911a1 in the Navy, in the early eighties, so I love the milspec 1911’s. Back then you bought a 1911 and made a lot of improvements which sounds like what you’re heading for.
