• No exposed hammer.
• No external safety (grip or integrated trigger is fine).
• Compact is preferred.

Anyone know of such a beast?

Never was , never will be. Wouldn't be a 1911 if built like you want. Look at the XDs for a close fit to what you seem to be looking for.

yow, my Python even cost less than that(about what I paid for my 1889 Winchester 73 rifle though). It's a good looking pistol nonetheless.

It is a nice looking gun but for that price I would think they could put better sights on it.

It's a cool gun, but too hot at that price point.

I've got a dinky 380ACP and a 9 mm that both meet my requirements. They're both Rugers, both extremely reliable, and together under $600.

Even my Gucci AR build was less than $2,500.

Can you tell us about your AR build? I'm considering trying one myself here soon....

I am not very knowledgeable about 1911's, but what you are describing sounds like my MOD-2 compact no hammer, grip safety and compact size.
If you want 1911 size go with MOD-2 Tactical.
