1911 Scratches

I just started to carry my 1911 in a Yaqui slide holster and discovered that the slide is getting scratched by the rivets on my denims. Any ideas how to polish them out. They're very fine and look brown. Thanks!

Brass wool and oil might buff it out.

If it’s a stainless steel slide a burgundy scotch brite pad is magical.

Are you planning on continuing to carry in that style holster? If so I’d keep the 1911 wiped down with oil and keep the character marks.

The short statement you made and that I 'bolded and colored' hints they may not even be scratches, but transfers of the copper from the rivets to the gun. Using a magnifying glass and a good light, look closely and you might just be pleasantly surprised. Let us know.

I took it to my local gunsmith. He suggested chrome polish used lightly. Did that. Still there but only appear to be surface only, so I'll go with "gives it character."
