1911 TRP Grips

GrayMan

Alpha
Hello everyone,

I just recently got my first 1911, a full size Coyote Brown TRP. I shot it and experienced blisters forming on my left, support, hand. Specifically the palm before my thumb. I find the jagged edges for the groove on the left side grip panel to be the cause. It can be very abrasive when shooting. Is there a way any of you recommend gripping the gun? Should I put my left palm firmly in the groove on the grip panel? Anyways, I love shooting the gun and the way it looks. I would want to keep the grip panels though as they look great in my opinion.

Thanks for any input

I would:
- buy new replacement grips that may be less abrasive in a look you like. There are thousands out there.
Or
- I have a TRP and love the G10 look and just wear thin shooting gloves.

I’ve use Emory boards ( the kind you use on your fingernails) to remove rough areas and hot spots on G-10 knife scales many times. Afterwards I wiped down the areas I worked on with a dab of 3-in-1 oil. Let it set for a few hours when wipe it with a clean dry cloth to restore the finish

Get some Wilson Sunburst style. The most comfortable grips I’ve ever used.

Finally resolved my issue by getting VZ Hydra slim line grips in MARSOC pattern. That's the closest I could find to the original pattern. Shot it today, much better experience! No more blisters from the grip panels. Springfield Armory puts really bad grip bushings and hardware on the gun, stripped one of the bushings and screws when replacing it. Thanks for everyone's input! I think it looks even better.
