Just be sure to keep the gun up at chest level and pointed/canted in a safe direction. One of my instructors didn't care for how I hit the paddles on my HKs and he wanted me to start using my trigger finger. That is until we broke out the shot clocks and I am doing combat and emergency reloads faster than he is, including getting back on target and firing accurately.Bassbob, I tried your suggestion about turning the gun slightly to reach the mag release and that made it much easier for me to drop the mag. Thanks!
I also don't subscribe to the never take your strong hand off your shotgun religion. Here's the thing no one ever thinks about with that. Most of the time when you try to maintain your grip with your strong hand on a shotgun, you are either going to wind up with the butt stock under your strong arm or the muzzle pointed straight down. That is, NOT on target. I reload with my strong hand ( over and under the receiver) while my support hand keeps the muzzle pointed at the threat and the butt stock is still nestled lovingly in my shoulder. And I am faster than most. Of course if the threat is right in front of you it's a different situation, but I would argue that if the threat is that close to you reloading is a waste of time. Hit the F'er in his nose with the butt stock. It's very effective, believe me.
