Grumman F-14 Tomcat — America’s Carrier Based Variable-Sweep Wing Fighter

Interesting background when Jimuh The Failure Carter allowed the fall of Iran. There were a number of Technicians in Iran advising the squigglies. They were awakened and told to gather their personal equipment and that they were being evicted from Iran. So our engineers each went to each F14 and removed the chip that made the advanced air weaponry work. Hence the F14 never lived up to its ability in Iran

add to that Iran techinicians placing extra transponder codes into airliners and well, this is the result https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655 note there are several versions of this story as to who was to blame and the codes etc, but what happened, happened

Aircraft ID'd as fromVF-114 in picture " fires over Iran is actually a VF-213 bird. Check out the lion on the vertical stabilizer. And I was in VF-114 and they have Orange Aardvarks on their Vertical stabilizers.

I wish the engineers could have made it stealthy....maybe they will bring back a modern form of it - having the cap to launch BVR LR AAMs that can take out targets as far as it could back then, now that's a quality to have. Let's not forget its main armament - the AIM 64-c Phoenix, link provided for ref

They have.
Brand new AIM-174

The F-14 shown does have an Aardvark consistent with VF-114. The lions of VF-213 look nothing like that.
