Interesting background when Jimuh The Failure Carter allowed the fall of Iran. There were a number of Technicians in Iran advising the squigglies. They were awakened and told to gather their personal equipment and that they were being evicted from Iran. So our engineers each went to each F14 and removed the chip that made the advanced air weaponry work. Hence the F14 never lived up to its ability in Iran

I wish the engineers could have made it stealthy....maybe they will bring back a modern form of it - having the cap to launch BVR LR AAMs that can take out targets as far as it could back then, now that's a quality to have. Let's not forget its main armament - the AIM 64-c Phoenix, link provided for ref

The F-14 shown does have an Aardvark consistent with VF-114. The lions of VF-213 look nothing like that.

Great Fighter ! The Navy should have gone with the Tomcat 21 proposal instead of the short legged Super Hornets, but the "Hornet Mafia" in the pentagon won out. Damn shame there are no flying examples of the Tomcat other than in Iran.
