With a 40 grain RN/FP or 36 grain hollow point hi velocity/speed is ~1200-1300 feet per second.
HYPER Velocity (like CCI Stinger) is usually a 30-32 grain bullet with a velocity of ~1400-1700+ feet per second.
The CCI Velocitor hyper-velocity round uses the standard long rifle case size and a standard weight 40 gr (2.6 g) bullet of proprietary hollow-point design to augment expansion and trauma. This cartridge has a muzzle velocity of 1,435 ft/s (437 m/s)
Standard velocity is usually under the speed of sound, about 1120 fps at sea level.
This can be more accurate as the bullet does not get upset when passing through the sound barrier down range.

I believe speed of sound is around 1070 fps. CCI standard velocity bullets shoot right around 1060, I believe. I’d have to look at them again to be exact. So, unless you get a hot round, the standard velocity should be subsonic out of a rifle.

Just an FYI< even CCI Mini Mags are subsonic in some handguns. CCI shows 1085 fps for mini mags from a handgun.
CCI doesn't seem to list the barrel length for the tested velocity in the catalog, but they do show a handgun velocity.

I shoot Aguila Interceptors in my .22 handguns, rated at 1470fps, they also make Supermaximum rated at 1700fps. CCI Velocitors are rated at 1435fps, Stingers are rated at 1640fps, I would think these would all be the top end for .22lr. At least I have not seen anything rated faster.
I have many different types of .22lr ammo on hand and I've tested two of the hottest .22lr ammo out there against a standard load .22lr with some surprising results.
All shots were taken with a Ruger 10/22 rifle at approximately 25ft.

CCI has a meateater 22 LR with a 21 grain copper bullet that has a rated velocity of 1850 fps.
The ballistics chart shows it stays supersonic to 100 yards.

I have Interceptors in my .22 S&W 43C. I’ve found them amazingly accurate for a HV .22, and I also prefer the flat nose profile for downrange performance.

Interesting no one has mentioned the new Federal Punch Out of a two inch barrel its rated at only 1050 but out of a 24 inch barrel its supposed to be 1650.My Taurus TX22 has a full mag of it when I go for a walk in the park cause even loaded it weighs virtually nothing. I have a Ruger 10/22 in stainless that has had nothing but Stingers through it. I have actually turned squirrels inside out with them. They also turn birds in to mist and loose feathers. As much as I like cantaloupe I will stick to testing using gallon milk jugs full of water. When I was first teaching my sons about what happens to someone when they are shot I used a gallon milk jug full of water and shot it with a Stinger. Made quite an impression. There is such an enormous variety of 22lr to choose from and most all of it is really great stuff. I have yet to try new Remington ammo which I always found it to be dirty.
