22lr Conversion kit for a 1911

Many years ago I picked up a Ciener Platinum Cup conversion for the 1911. I liked it so much that I built up a frame to mount it on permanently. 😁 However, I hear that Ciener went out of business a couple of years ago. They do pop up used every now and then. I hear that the Kimber unit is a copy of it.
I also have a Ciener .22 unit for my Hi-Powers. I love it! (y)

You might want to consider simply buying a .22 cal 1911. I got this Colt/Walther pistol about a year ago and its been great!

Thanks for the information. Yeah, after looking at what’s available and the prices I think getting a Colt/Walther is probably the best option.

Good Morning everyone,
Years ago I had a Colt Ace 22lr Conversion kit for my Government model. I liked it because it replicated the recoil of shooting 45 ACP ammo when you were actually using 22lr.
Does anyone use them on their 1911? Any recommendations on which one works the best on a SA Mil-Spec?
Thanks
be careful what brand of .22 lr you shoot....

a lawyer cruising the websites saw my posting HERE about Armscor ammo, and it exploding.

he thought it was mine that explored, but nope, it was a shooting buddy's .22 lr Armscor..

it blew out his magazine(s) 3 of them, on 3 different outings to the range.

he was shooting his RIA XTM...same gun as me...1911

lawyer wanted my story on what happened.

after i emailed him, he thanked me and apologized for thinking it was my gun.

i DO shoot Armscor 45 ACP, and have had no issues....but i buy Armscor only if i am in dire need of 45 ACP, which is not very often.

apparently, his client is a soldier and HIS gun exploded, using Armsor, but actually never mentioned the caliber, but claimed several rounds were "weighed" by his expert claiming they were "too heavy" to be proper factory filled.

here is the PM he sent me the other day....

Hi,

In your post, you mentioned an Armscor round exploding in the chamber. I am working on a case where an Army heli-pilot was injured when an Armscor cartridge exploded --- it was almost certainly overpacked with powder. There have also been multiple other reports about Armscor rounds doing the same. The company is, however, denying this is possible and denying responsibility.

If there's any chance you'd be open to telling me about what happened to you, I'd very much appreciate it. I'm just looking for examples, since Armscor is claiming they've had no complaints about the ammunition.

after seeing the extreme damage the Armscor .22 ammo did to my buddy's gun on 3 DIFFERENT occasions, i make sure i tell many people about it.

i use CCI, or WMI, or Aguila, or Federal.

There are several 1911 / 22 conversions available.

Advantage arms.
The target model has a fixed barrel with the sights on the barrel.
The standard conversion the sights move with the slide like your 1911.

Marvel makes a Unit 1 and unit 2 conversion.
Unit 1 have a fixed barrel; Unit 2 is for hi velocity ammo

Unit 1 (steel or aluminum)

Unit 2

Nelson also makes a 22 conversion

The Marvel and Nelson are popular for Bullseye competition due to their accuracy.
