.22lr Upper Search

I just got my first AR about a week ago It is a Saint. I love the gun but I'm looking at getting a .22lr upper for it since it's cheaper to practice with and my son is shooting .22lr in shooting competitions so it would give him another choice for competition. Does anyone have any tips on what I should be looking for in an upper? I'm pretty new to the gun hobby so I'm still learning what I need and don't need so to speak. I kind of want to build or buy an upper that matches the saint but not sure where to get the parts or what I need since I haven't built anything before.

I’d just get a CMMG conversion bolt, and mess with a complete upper.
Depends on how much accuracy you need/can live with.

I have both systems. .22LRs don't shoot particularly well in 5.56 barrels, regardless of rifling twist. I've tried my "bolt conversion" (a USGI M261, one of the better ones) in several different rifles, with several different ammo types, and the very best results (one particular combination) were about 1" at 25 yards. Everything else was more in the 1.25-1.5" range, which is pretty bad. (For comparison, just about any .22 rifle/ammo combination will do @ 1.5" or better at 50 yards.)

My dedicated .22LR upper (a DPMS), on the other hand, will easily drop them all inside 1" at 50 yards, with many groups in the 3/4" range. This is pretty good accuracy for any .22 rifle ("target" rifles excepted).
