.308 Accuracy Question

Likely far better accuracy than most of us here are capable of !!!

Depends on talent/experience of shooter, quality/type of ammo, position of shooter, weather conditions, etc, etc, etc. I know what you're asking, but it's really impossible to answer accurately. Good luck/have fun with it! (y)(y)

Perhaps this thread posted by Mike here on this forum can shed some light on the topic per the author’s research & testing.

What kind of accuracy should someone expect from a .308 M1A at 100 yards?
Depends on the rifle, the ammo, & the shooter.

Most M1A’s aren’t going to give sub-MOA results right out of the box. Most are, from what I’ve seen, 2-3 MOA, which is more than acceptable for a battle rifle. The Match/Supermatch (or whatever they call them now) will give better, but you pay for it.

With modifications (stock/bedding, load development for the rifle, etc), then one could expect consistent sub 1” groups at 100 yards.

After setting zero on my Sig Sauer Sierra3BDX scope on my M1A shooting Sig Sauer 150gr FMJ I obtained these groups.

In my opinion it all depends on the model. A standard M1A is a 1.5 to 2 MOA rifle out of the box. The National Match model probably shoots straighter than that, but I'm not sure. I've never shot one. I have two M1A's. The Scout Squad and the SOCOM CQB. I can tell you The Scout is a 1.5 to 2 MOA carbine out of the box. The best I've done with it was ringing a 15" gong consistantly from a rest shot after shot at 350yds witch is plenty satisfactory for me out of a Scout style carbine with an 18 or 18.5 incn barrel. My SOCOM is a CQB weapon with a non magnified optic so I dialed it in at 50 yrds and was ringing a 12" gong consistantly at 100yds witch was also plenty satisfactory for me out of a CQB carbine. However, Neither the Scout nor the SOCOM were designed for extreme or even long range shooting. You'd be better of with the M1A "Loaded" or "National Match" models for that with thier 22" match grade barrels. Once again this all just my opinion brother. Hope this helps. Shoot fun, Shoot safe and Shoot straight!

Nice shooting black feather! However, thats shooting from a rest I'm guessing, witch would not be the typical shooting position in a CQB senerio. Correct me if I'm wrong. If that is your off hand position groupings. Your one hell of a marksmen!!!
